Roland Japan has released an announcement regarding the SolJet Pro III XC-540MT printer, which it says has a firmware fault which may render it inactive or, in the worst case, emit smoke from or around the control panel. Alternatively, the main panel may overheat, Roland adds.

If the problem does arise, the company has advised users to turn off the main power switch and to contact the distributor if the main panel overheats or smoke appears. As a countermeasure, the guidance is to update the firmware, and Roland states that the distributor's service staff will be in touch with users to provide help and support in the firmware upgrade. In the meantime, the sub power switch should be turned off when not in use.

The fault affects machines which were shipped between October 2009 and July 2010.

The Roland XC-540MT was introduced as the word's first ink-jet printer/cutter using metallic silver ink, and is suitable for applications including posters, point-of-sale, window graphics and printing proofs.
