Kent-based Press On Digital Imaging (PODI) has invested in a second HP Scitex LX850 printer to boost production capacity for its vehicle wrapping and window film offer. The purchase was made through Surrey and Sheffield-based HP dealer CWE Solutions.

The LX850 joins another three HP latex machines PODI already owns, including a Scitex LX600 and the LX850 installed in September 2011, which the company says give it an edge over its competition thanks to their environmental credentials.

"The promotional wrapping work we do using London taxis would have gone elsewhere had it not been for our HP latex technologies, as the client sought tangible proof that the impact on the environment would be reduced," says PODI co-director Andrew Wilson. "The water-based inks and the fact that the media can be recycled once removed from vehicles ticked the right boxes."

The printer's 3.2m (126") width and its speed combined with 1200dpi resolution were also key considerations. "The LX850 delivers the best speed achievable at the high output quality we require," Wilson explains. "Although some UV machines might be faster, they quickly fall down in terms of their suitably for vehicle applications, so it's about fulfilling all criteria – not just one."
