Sappi says its innovative, premium, high bright, white top liner grade Fusion offers exceptional print quality with outstanding vivid colour. It uses 100 percent bleached virgin fibres, which ensures it is a spotless paper. Following coating and calendering the Fusion surface offers a special quality and gloss that other top liners can't match, according to the company, while the wider colour reproduction offered by Fusion means printers can help their customers achieve a more striking shelf impact and take advantage of new packaging possibilities.

One of the first companies in Europe to use Fusion was Dutch display and packaging producer, Holbox. The new corrugated paper has proved so popular that the company is going to switch most of its former liner demand to the grade's 180gsm. Martijn Hol, director at Holbox, comments: "The brightness and whiteness guarantee our customers' displays have a striking shelf presence. It adds the extra visual element that can really make a difference to a product's shelf appeal."

Sappi states that Fusion ensures excellent machine performance, helping printers and converters operate more efficiently, minimise waste, and save time – which ultimately allows them to minimise production costs.

Other attributes include its UV light fastness, and its virgin fibre base which guarantees no tearing at the edges and no cracking in the creasing area. It is also approved for direct food contact, while the ability to achieve consistently high-quality colour helps printers aiming to achieve ISO 12647-2 conformance. A wide range of grammages and thicknesses allow greater flexibility when creating displays, packaging or other materials.

These attributes combine to create a grade that meets the increasingly strong demand for high-quality presentation at the point-of-sale (POS). Brand owners, retailers and discounters are well aware of the power of corrugated packages as ideal marketing communication tools for POS displays and packaging.

Fusion is strong in environmental credentials too. It is made with pulp from Sappi's ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certified Alfeld mill and from other trusted sources. It is fully recyclable and available with PEFC or FSC certification, meeting the growing demand from customers and end users for paper with these accreditations.
