Press On Digital Imaging's Andy Wilson comments on the breakdown support options for display producers
Press On Digital Imaging, a Rochester-based display producer, has commented on how independent breakdown and technical advice has saved it 'a small fortune'.
Managing director of Press On, Andy Wilson, says he is a 'sceptic' of the maintenance schemes and extended warranties available for the business's equipment and opted for breakdown cover company Tech8 instead.
"We know our machines well and, whilst much of that is down to experience, it's common sense and not rocket science which can fix most problems and get our printers back up and running quickly," comments Wilson. "I make no bones about the fact that we use after-market inks in all of our printers. This goes against the service and breakdown policies made by manufacturers as we've decided not to be coerced into using their products simply because a maintenance contract decrees that we must."
He adds: "Crucially, by using Tech8, people get an unbiased assessment of the problem. If the ink is the cause of the fault, the engineer will tell you; if the machine has a known generic problem with its heads, you'll get an honest appraisal because the company is not under any obligation to protect the interests of the original manufacturer."
