In-store signage management software company Pierhouse has launched a new application which can create 'thousands of QR codes in minutes' for shelf edges.
The Infinite Shelf Edge application creates the QR, or Quick Response codes, and links them to the information necessary for the production of price tickets and in-store special offer information. This is done by connecting Infinite Shelf Edge to Pierhouse's strategic signage management solution NetTickIT, the company explains.
Pierhouse cites research which has found that more than 30 percent of users of smartphones – which are necessary to scan QR codes – 'seem very happy' to read a code if they lead to additional information useful for making a buying decision.
QR codes can also be used to access special offers, product reviews, technical details and related products, and have been employed successfully by UK supermarket chain Waitrose to give its customers access to recipes by chef Heston Blumenthal, says Pierhouse.
