Image Options installed the Shoe Dog sign late last year
California-based graphics producer Image Options has told Output it has received 'some great feedback' following the installation of an overhead display at a sports shop in San Diego.
Road Runner Sports commissioned Image Options to both design and manufacture a large, hanging header sign for its Shoe Dog fitting area within its flagship store. Following the production of several concepts which fell within budget, the final design was made from a box frame construction with 1/4" (64mm) bending birch skins which were laminated with Nevamar Chalk White HPL laminate.
Image Options explains that the sign had to be produced in four sections, which were secured together with 1" (2.5cm) pins and holes for alignment and four heavy-duty camlock hook fasteners. Following lamination and assembly of the sections, the bottom surface plus two stripes on the sign's face were laminated with brushed stainless steel laminate, while the remaining white laminate surfaces were covered with printed Avery 1005 film coated with Avery's DOL matt product.
The display also included 3D letters, which were CNC cut from 1 and 2" (2.5 and 5cm) thicknesses of Gatorfoam. A two-man crew installed the sign over two days.
