The BPIF has drawn attention to the government's new deadline for new companies to register for the Climate Change Levy discount. Businesses which are not already members of the BPIF scheme have until August 17th to take advantage of a 90 percent reduction of the levy on electricity and a 65 percent cut on gas.
"The BPIF has worked extremely hard to ensure the printing industry retained the levy discount which had been under threat and is worth over £5m annually to the industry," comments Steve Walker, manager of the BPIF's Climate Change Levy Reduction Scheme.
"The old scheme has been closed to new members since October 2009, and now it's open again it's a great opportunity for larger energy users to save thousands of pounds each year. Not only that but it also exempts them from participating in the expensive CRC energy efficiency scheme."
The organisation explains that the levy will increase to 0.524 pence per kWh for electricity and 0.182 pence per kWh for gas from April 2013, equating to savings of £4,716 and £1,183 a year for the life of the scheme for a company using 1m kWh of electricity and 1m kWh of gas respectively.
