Editor's note [spacer line]

[EFI] [Morwenna Kearns, editor]

We at Output have always been champions of education and training, and of recognising the value of young people to the graphic arts industry, at so I was especially pleased to see that the Print Futures Awards is back for another year. It's a great scheme that does more than presents people with trophies; it hands over hard cash to help 16 to 30-year-olds continue their careers within the print sector. Looking around trade show floors in recent years, it seems that there are more under-30s in the industry than before, but there's still room for more. Laurel Brunner also writes on education in her feature for our Production Print stream, proving that there are more training opportunities than you might think. As always, we'd be delighted to hear your stories of training and apprenticeships, so get in touch.

FESPA Digital

FESPA Digital closed its doors on Friday after four days of educational sessions, product launches and, no doubt, rather a lot of Spanish food and wine. Mimaki unveiled a number of exciting new machines including kit featuring its new latex ink, while the debut of the Fujifilm Acuity LED 1600 attracted its fair share of attention and HP's Designjet L28500 and L26500 were highlights too. You can catch up with the news on our dedicated FESPA Digital 2012 tags page, and keep an eye on Output for the latest stats and reviews of the show.

Video of the Week [spacer line]

Indigo fun

We all get excited for the show season and for drupa in particular. But some industry enthusiasts take their excitement to the next level. Recently, we found this self-published YouTube video of a geek (we say it in the most loving way possible) father and son duo rocking out to the drupa song 2012 and making an HP Indigo printer out of Lego.

Here at Output we love seeing this kind of excitement, niche playfulness, internet-age wit and, let's face it, cuteness enlivening the industry.

Make sure to get in touch with your own home-made and professional industry-related videos and you might just find yourself the star of your own Output Video of the Week instalment.

Output's YouTube channel has lots more past Videos of the Week plus our own productions – take a look now.
