[EFI] [Morwenna Kearns, editor]

Our favourite story on Output in the last week has to be the heated 'jacket potato' bus shelters being rolled out across the UK to promote a frozen food product. It's not the first time that advertisers have had the brainwave to add some warmth to their campaign to appease a captive audience, but this creative on JCDecaux sites also features 3D potatoes, cooking smells and a voucher dispenser. It's the combination of fun and clever ideas carefully carried out that appeals to me – and probably every other bus passenger this winter – and the kind of thing I'll be looking out for this week when I again join the judging panel for the Sign and Digital UK Awards. Last year we saw all manner of interesting projects, large and small, and I'll look forward to reporting back on what I see.

FESPA Digital

As manufacturers continue to announce their plans, it certainly looks like FESPA Digital will be a busy four days – and those who struggled through last week's wintry weather in the UK are probably looking forward to shedding a few layers in a hopefully warmer Barcelona too. Clothes will be on the agenda in a big way, however, with the FESPA Fabric show-within-a-show taking up ten percent of the overall floor space. Apparel and interior decor are expected to be major draws, but display companies thinking of moving beyond banners and into more sophisticated soft signage will also find lots to see. You can keep up with product launches, educational sessions and events taking place throughout FESPA Digital and FESPA Fabric at our dedicated tags page.

Video of the Week [spacer line]

Digigraphie by Epson

This week's VOTW is a lovely case study of watercolour artist Ian Sidaway, as he finds out how his work can be printed digitally, in this case by London-based Bayeux on an Epson Stylus Pro 9900. Sidaway's refreshingly honest about how he had no idea about how the Digigraphie process would pan out with his work and was at Bayeux to write an article for The Artist magazine on its pros and cons. The film therefore indicates that the fine art world is gradually finding its feet with digital technology, as well as giving an explanation of the Digigraphie process.

You can see lots more videos on Output's YouTube channel, many of which have been filmed with our artistic hand.
