[Morwenna Kearns, managing editor]

This week on Output we've expanded our Product Profiles section to include our very own road tests, with Sophie Matthews-Paul, AKA Mrs Ink-jet, giving her review of Agfa's :M-Press Leopard. Now it's your turn: if you've used a machine, material or other bit of kit and have something to say, please let us know. We also have space for you to leave your comments on our reviews and profiles, so sign up (it only takes 30 seconds) and let your opinion be known.

We've had a great response to last week's invitation to eco-conscious signage companies. If you can prove your green credentials, get in touch and we could be interviewing you.

Mid-2011 review: What have been the ups and downs and what should we expect for the rest of the year?

[Sophie Matthews-Paul]

"We're still expecting growth from the textile sector but, with a few exceptions, companies investing in new equipment are tending to go for 'more of the same'."

[Laurel Brunner]

"There seems to be greater awareness of what can be done with variable data output technologies."

Ogilvy PR London hosts 'Social Media Beyond Borders'

The Ogilvy-sponsored Social Media Beyond Borders conference was a free event designed to ascertain the differing ways that various cultures use social media and, with this in mind, how best to reach out to them. With many digital signage products incorporating social media into their content streams, Michael Darragh of Ogilvy PR's warning should undoubtedly be heeded by DOOH professionals: 'I see a lot of really great campaigns happening. I also see a lot of failures'. While Ogilvy's example primarily explores how digital signage operators can leverage social media, it demonstrates the importance of considering how cultural communities interact – a factor vital to all realms of the display world.
