It has been revealed that a total cost of ownership (TCO) calculator has been introduced to the digital signage market by AMX, a technology solutions firm. The device, which will be exhibited at Almo’s upcoming E4 AV Tour in New York City on December 15th, allows users to compare the fixed and recurring costs of purchasing digital signage.
Key factors considered by the TCO calculator include maintenance, size of deployment, financial outlay for electricity, period of operation and software fees.
The device, which was developed with input from InfoComm Academy faculty instructor and digital signage consultant Lyle Bunn, analyses the environmental impact of players and uses wattage information to ascertain the amount of electricity a product uses.
"A device like this can really benefit the marketplace as there are a number of options and variables that need to be analysed and understood to make the best purchase in a digital signage deployment," states Sean McNeill, AMX vice-president of business development. "As the digital signage industry is beginning to see explosive growth, organizations and businesses considering a deployment now have a source to educate themselves on the cost factors that come into play."
