According to its manufacturer Noventri, the Eco-Series SF-100e digital signage player was inspired by its customers. It is a low-cost solution for companies planning to install multiple screens or digital signage networks, and can be used for a range of electronic signage and communications including message boards, menuboards, reader boards, meeting room boards and flight boards.

The SF-100e uses under four watts with a full load, working out to 35 kWh/yr – less power consumption than a child's nightlight. In addition, for every SF-100e player purchased, Noventri plants a tree in the buyer's name through the Arbor Day Foundation.

Lyle Bunn, an independent advisor and educator serving enterprise media initiatives and advancing dynamic digital signage and digital place-based media projects, describes the product as 'eco-brilliant'. "Digital signage is in part about the eco-friendliness of more effective communications – delivering messages to targeted groups with minimal waste; to message almost instantly without paper waste and on ultra-low power consumption," he says.

The player is non-PC-based, includes software and requires no recurring fees, hosting fees or licensing fees. It can be managed over the internet and runs on pre-existing networks, and also accepts USB sneakernet updates. Noventri also states the small and lightweight product offers resolutions of up to 1,920 x 1,200.

The Eco-Series SF-100e is currently being used at the Newseum media museum in Washington DC, USA. Bud O'Connor, director of engineering at Newseum, says: "Newseum looked for the best company with the most to offer for integrating electronic signage within the Newseum. Noventri provided the needed expertise, technology and support to provide Newseum with an electronic signage system that is high-end and dependable."
