River water and projectors combines to form a promotional show for Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro
Branding company Icon executed a 1,000sq m water screen projection show in London on August 13th, which invited the world to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
To produce the three-minute show, water from the River Thames was pumped at 4,000 litres per minute to create a 24 x 80m water screen onto which a promotional film was projected. Icon also installed a PA system to provide a soundtrack, and a light show and branding for a river barge transporting VIPs.
"With only a short period of time to plan this project, the Icon team worked very hard to pull this media event together," comments Richard Dale, managing director of Icon's Event Production division.
"Leveraging our existing relationships with the Port of London Authority and key partners within LOCOG, the team has produced this stunning show as a great finale to the London 2012 celebrations and the Brazilian stakeholders were delighted with results."
