More than 45m passengers annually will benefit from the new media space at King's Cross

The new Western Concourse at London's King's Cross station has opened to the public, featuring a 'state-of-the-art' media space implemented by JCDecaux.

The refurbishment of the concourse marks the biggest transformation of the station in its 160-year history, and JCDecaux has worked alongside Network Rail, English Heritage and architects to ensure that the installation delivers 'advertising space for 21st century audiences' whilst remaining sympathetic to the historic area.

The digital media space comprises two HD Transvision screens either side of the departure boards and four digital six-sheets. King’s Cross is the first station with recessed digital six-sheets, with two poster sites designed to 'fit seamlessly into the fabric of the building' and two free-standing six-sheets in the centre of concourse with wayfinding information on the reverse.

Five wall-mounted static six-sheets complete the installation, and there are further plans to implement 20 digital escalator panels between the Underground and mainline stations.

"We have taken a ‘less is more’ approach to create outdoor advertising that is sympathetic to the station’s heritage and that deploys the very latest in digital technology," says Jeremy Male, chief executive, JCDecaux UK and Northern Europe.
