Fans can keep up with the action on the court while buying snacks, with further digital signage acting as menuboards
The University of Oregon in Eugene, USA has chosen Haivision's Makito HD H.264 encoders and a CoolSign digital signage system to display real-time sports content to screens throughout its new Matthew Knight Arena, home of the Oregon Ducks NCAA Basketball team.
Over 140 CoolSign players distributed to common areas are controlled from a central location within in the system, which includes a CoolSign Server, DataWatcher, Network Manager and Content Creator tool, and connected to four HD Makito encoders – one for each of the HD video sources. Displays of various sizes show content and scores from the basketball games, plus news and adverts.
The network also extends to the arena's concession stands, each of which has a CoolSign digital signage player to show content such as menus and prices, which can be changed via the central control room to include specifically targeted promotions.
"We needed to give fans a way to stay connected with the game when they leave the main arena to purchase snacks or to enjoy the new clubrooms," states Megan Robertson, director of promotions, University of Oregon. "Because of Haivision's IP video system, fans can continue to enjoy the game even when they leave their seats."
